Jaybird Tarah Pro review
The Jaybird Tarah Pro’s are the high end edition of Jaybird’s wireless earphone range, packed with features to suit many prospective buyers.
When they’re in your ears, their small form factor (20 grams) help deliver a listening experience that most people will find comfortable for hours.
What really contributes to the good sound quality is the ear canal seal created by the tips. In the box, you will find different tips to choose from depending on your ear shape and size, this will ensure a good quality seal and a more immersive experience.
After trying out all the different ways that the Tarah Pro can be worn, the Switch Fit over-the-ear method is my personal preference. Switch Fit allows you to rotate the earbuds so that the fabric sport cord/wire exits upward, allowing them to easily hook over your ears and around the back of your head, where you can secure them with an adjustable cinch. When worn like this, the headphones will remain locked to your head, feeling as though you’re not wearing anything – as opposed to wearing them “normally” from below upwards. Adding to the comfort is the curved control panel which contours the side of your head perfectly.
With the Jaybird Tarah Pro you can take out the earbuds and snap them together magnetically, leaving the headphones secured around your neck. A great feature is that your music will automatically pause when the buds are connected this way. So, the music will start playing where it left off. Alternatively, if you leave them connected like this then they will automatically turn off after 15 or so minutes, saving battery life.
Jaybird uses a soft silicone for these ear caps and fins, and wearing them feels similar to Bose’s comfy earbuds. So long as you like in ear headphones!
For active users, Jaybird’s silicone caps allow enough environmental noise to reach your ears for a decent amount of situational awareness.
The Tarah Pro’s feature an in-line module containing the earphones’ battery, microphones, and controls – three buttons for volume, play/pause, and next/previous track. The middle button is also a power button.
These earphones can pair with two devices simultaneously, such as an iPhone and an iPad. Similar to the X4, the Tarah Pro’s connectivity is flawless with my audio source sitting next to me while I listened to music, and it remained acceptable up to 4 or so metres away (with no barriers).
The Tarah Pro’s also come with an IPX7 rating, meaning that they can be fully submerged in up to 1-metre of water for at least 30 minutes. This would be safe for rain running, or sweat in the gym and then a rinse down after with no dramas.
Charging is undertaken with a special Jaybird charging clip, more waterproofing means less ports to charge with and access.
Jaybird claims the Tarah Pro should provide 14 hours of runtime. Connecting the earbuds to their charging clip for just 5 minutes will also get you another 2 hours minutes of runtime! I am stunned by how much you can get out of these and no one can come close to this with a quick charge providing multiple workouts worth of charge.
Jaybird also has its free MySound iOS app which lets you tweak the equalizer to suit your audio preferences. Once you’ve created a sound profile you like, you can save it and share it with Jaybird’s other users while continuing to experiment with new EQ settings. Jaybird also has presets on the app to make things easy for you.
Offering a comfy fit, great waterproofing. and decent audio at a reasonable price, the Jaybird Tarah Pro wireless sports earphones are a great choice for anyone looking for a new pair of Bluetooth earbuds that have a few more features than the X4’s and other lower end models.
